    Herbal Tea

    • Drink one to two cups of red clover, black cohosh or chasteberry herbal tea a day. These herbs are rich in plant compounds called phytoestrogens, which are estrogenic plant hormones that mimic the activity of estrogen in the woman's body. Phytoestrogens have been proven to help to correct the hormonal imbalance that causes night sweats.

      To brew red clover herbal tea, place one heaping teaspoon of the herb into a mug and cover it with a cup of boiling water. Cover the mug and allow the herb to steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain the tea into another cup and drink up.

    Soy Products

    • Stock up on soy and soy products. Soybeans are one of the richest, plant-derived sources of isoflavones, which are a class of phytoestrogens. Soy isoflavones can be obtained from soymilk and other types of soy products such as miso, tempeh and tofu. Other legumes such as chickpeas, kidney beans and lentils also contain these plant compounds, but in a much lower concentration.

    Flaxseed Oil

    • Add flaxseed oil to your diet. This oil is extracted from the seeds of the flax plant, and are rich in lignans. Lignans are another type of phytoestrogen that helps to alleviate night sweats by regulating estrogen levels in the body. Flaxseed oil, which is also called linseed oil, can be used to prepare culinary dishes, or in a vegetable salad as dressing.

    Avoid Sweat-Enhancing Triggers

    • Avoid any known factors that can trigger night sweats. These include food and drinks such as caffeinated and alcoholic drinks as well as hot, spicy dishes. Other triggers that you should avoid include smoking, drug use and diet pills. Stress and anxiety are emotional factors that can cause night sweats, and should be alleviated as much as possible.

    Stay Cool

    • Ensure that your bedroom is cool and well-ventilated when you go to sleep. Lower the temperature in the room, if that is possible. Increase airflow in the room by opening a window or turning on a fan. Sleep in night clothes and bedding that are produced from an absorbent fabric such as linen or cotton. This type of fabric helps to disperse heat away from your skin, which helps to lower body temperature.
