How to fix a Broken Friendship

    • 1). Analyze the friendship. If you had a great time with your friend and both of you benefited emotionally from your experiences together, repair the friendship. If you did all the calling, planning and nurturing in the friendship, or if your friend constantly flaked out or criticized you, consider letting the broken friendship lapse. Friendships can be as dysfunctional as romantic relationships.

    • 2). Alter your behavior. Many times actions cause friendship problems. Think about why your friendship faltered, and be sure to fix any of the personality flaws that caused rifts in your bond.

    • 3). Approach your friend. This can be hard to do, especially if you haven't spoken for awhile. Swallow your pride and your fear and make the first move. Rehearse what you're going to say or draft what you want to write in an email. Try to call, meet or "bump into" your friend in the flesh since phone calls and in-person meetings impart your voice and gestures, not just typed words.

    • 4). Practice patience in an attempt to fix a broken friendship. Regardless of the reason for the broken friendship, remember that people have busy lives and emotional wounds that heal slowly. Wait a while for your friend to reply. If they don't respond immediately, contact them a few weeks or months later with a short, friendly email, text or phone call.
