How to Troubleshoot an Inground Pool

    • 1). Inspect the pool skimmers for dirt and debris if the pool is not filtering water properly. Pull out the skimmers and empty them if necessary.

    • 2). Inspect the filter for signs of dirt and debris if the water pressure is low or the pool pump doesn't seem to be working properly. Remove the filters and clean them if necessary. Cleaning methods will differ depending on the filter type.

    • 3). Check the power source for the pool pump if it is not running. Check the fuses and the switch. Listen for the pump to switch on. Call out a pool technician if the pump doesn't seem to work or follow your pump's troubleshooting guide, included in the manual.

    • 4). Take a sample of pool water from elbow depth if you have signs of algae or a strong chlorine smell. Pour the pool water into your testing kit and drop in the testing formula for the chemical you are testing for. pH should be between 7.0 and 7.6 and chlorine between 1.0 and 3.0 parts per million. Adjust the chemicals as necessary.
