How to Troubleshoot Digital Cable TV Problems
- 1). Inspect the cable running both into the cable receiver and out of the receiver. If the cable is not properly inserted into the cable receiver, you are going to lose video and audio quality.
- 2). Check out your power outlet and make sure the surge protector strip (if using one) is "On." Unplug the cable receiver and connect it to a different power outlet if the current outlet is not functioning properly.
- 3). Press the "Volume Up" button on your TV remote if you are not hearing any audio.
- 4). Power on the television and make sure you have it on the correct video setting. If you are using RCA cables to connect the digital receiver to the TV, the TV needs to be set on "Video" (push the "Insert" button, then select "Video"). If using component cables, set your TV to "Component" and if using an HDMI cable, set it to "HDMI."
- 5). Power down the digital cable receiver. Leave the receiver powered down for several minutes. Restart it and wait for the receiver to load. This often corrects any issue you are having with the digital cable.
- 6). Look on the digital cable receiver for a flashing red light. Often a cable company performs system updates that prevent you from accessing television. This only lasts for a few moments. Once the red light disappears, you can begin watching your television.
- 7). Press the "TV" button on the digital cable remote if you want to control the television. Without pressing this button, the remote does not adjust the volume or power on the TV. To adjust the station, press the "Cable" button on the remote control before adjusting the station.
- 8). Contact your digital cable provider if you continue to experience issues with the receiver.
