Instructions for Making a Box Trap
- 1). Measure three boards to 2 1/2-foot lengths with a tape measure. Measure one board 2 feet long. Mark the lengths with a pencil. Cut the boards along the pencil mark with a saw.
- 2). Make a length of grooved track. Spread wood glue on 2 strips of wood. Glue them to a wider strip of wood, with a 1-inch space between them. Cut the track to match the width of the boards you cut in Step 1.
- 3). Measure 1 inch from the end of two of the 2 1/2-foot boards and mark it. Place a grooved track on each board on the 1-inch mark, parallel with the short end of the board. Spread wood glue on the back of the track and attach it to the board.
- 4). Attach all 4 pieces of wood you cut in Step 1 in the shape of a long, rectangular box. Place the two pieces with the tracks on them parallel to each other. Place the 2-foot board on top of the two pieces with the tracks. Nail all the pieces together using a hammer and nails.
- 5). Measure the width of the square-shape exterior of the box. Mark this shape on a piece of wire netting. Cut out the net with a pair of scissors. Attach the net to the back side of the box with wood staples.
- 6). Measure the width of the square-shape interior of the box. Mark this shape on a piece of wood. Cut the piece of wood equal to the size and shape of the interior of the box. This will be the front door of your box trap.
- 7). Apply wood glue to one end of a wood strip. Position the wood strip in the center of the top of the box. Attach the stick to the top of the box, sticking straight up.
- 8). Drill a hole in the top of the box toward the back end of the box using an electric drill.
- 9). Assemble the box trap. Tie a thick string to the front door of your box trap. Attach the other end of the string to a long strip of wood. Fit the front door into the grooved track you made and attached to the box in Steps 2 and 3.
- 10
Tie another string on the other end of the strip of wood. Thread it through the hole you drilled in the top of the box. Balance this long strip of wood on top of the wood strip you glued to the center of the top of the box in Step 7. - 11
Place the bait inside the box trap toward the back of the box. Attach the bait to the string you threaded through the hole in the top of the box.
