How to Boil Shells
- 1). Put the shells in a large pot. The pot should be large enough that there is at least 3 inches of space between the top of the shells and the rim of the pot.
- 2). Fill the pot with water until the water level is at least 2 inches above the shells. Some of the water will evaporate, so it's best to have a little extra.
- 3). Put the pot on the stove and set the temperature to high heat. Cover the pot with a lid to help retain heat within the pot.
- 4). Boil the shells for at least five minutes.
- 5). Pour the contents of the pot through a colander or strainer after the boiling process. Let the shells cool down for five to 10 minutes before you handle them. Pull out all animal tissue from the shells once they cool down. Depending on the shells, you may need to use a knife to cut out some of the tissue.
