2000 Honda Odyssey Transmission Problems

34

    Transmission Failure

    • Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) indicate that transmission failure is one of the most frequently reported issues with the 2000 Odyssey. A possible indicator of transmission failure is trouble shifting gears. Due to overwhelming customer complaints, Honda extended the 2000 Odyssey's transmission repair warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles.

    Transmission Leak

    • TSBs also indicate that transmission axle seal leakage is a common problem with the Odyssey. A transmission leak spot (red or brown) is easily noticeable in a driveway or wherever your vehicle is parked. Noticing the leak before it worsens safeguards against complete transmission failure.

    Solution

    • Repair Pal estimates rear main seal replacement at $618 to $831 for parts and labor. Although the seals are inexpensive, the repair is labor intensive and requires removing the transmission. If your transmission failure occurs outside of the warranty, MSN Auto estimates the cost of a re-manufactured unit to be $3872 for parts and labor.
