How to Turn an Ignition Key That is Stuck
- 1). Engage the parking brake in your vehicle. This will make sure that the wheels are not active or moving, thus preventing you from turning the key.
- 2). Turn the steering wheel in both directions to loosen the wheels if they are stuck on one side, which may also stop the car from turning on.
- 3). Put the car firmly into the "Park" position. If the car is not in park, you will not be able to start the car.
- 4). Remove the panels around the ignition cylinder to make sure there is nothing preventing the cylinder from turning. You can also insert a wire into the ignition to be sure there is nothing stuck there, which would prevent you from inserting the key all the way.
