How to Make Beats Separate From a Song

    Audacity

    • 1). Launch the Audacity application.

    • 2). Select “Open” from the “File” menu. Browse to find the song you want to strip the vocals from. The song’s file must be a .wav, .aiff or .mp3 file in stereo format. Click “Open” to import the file into Audacity. The top portion of the track represents the left channel. The bottom portion of the track represents the right channel.

    • 3). Click the downward pointing triangle next to the audio track. Select “Split Stereo Track” to separate the left and right channels into two separate audio tracks.

    • 4). Click on an empty area above the “Mute” or “Solo” button for the right channel audio track. The track should now be highlighted indicating that it is selected. Go to the “Edit” menu and select “Invert.” All of the wave’s negative amplitude values (on the right channel) will become positive, and all the positive values will become negative.

    • 5). Click the downward pointing triangle next to the right channel audio track. Select “Mono.” Click the downward pointing triangle next to the left channel audio track. Select “Mono.”

    • 6). Play the tracks together. The vocals should now be inaudible if they were originally mixed in the center.

    WavePad

    • 1). Launch the WavePad application.

    • 2). Click “Open File.” Browse to find the song you want to strip the vocals from. The song’s file must be in stereo format. Click “Open” to import the file into WavePad.

    • 3). Go to the “Effects” menu. Point to “Special Effects.” Select “Reduce Vocals.”

    • 4). Play the audio. The vocals should now be inaudible if they were originally mixed in the center.

    GoldWave

    • 1). Launch the GoldWave application.

    • 2). Select “Open” from the “File” menu. Browse to find the song you want to strip the vocals from. The song must be in stereo format. Click “Open” to import the file into GoldWave.

    • 3). Go to the “Effects” menu. Point to “Stereo.” Select “Reduce Vocals.” A dialog box will open.

    • 4). Open the “Preset” drop-down menu. Select “Simple Cancellation.”

    • 5). Preview the audio by clicking the "Play" button. The vocals should now be inaudible if they were originally mixed in the center. Click “OK” to preserve the edit.
