Things to Do in Beaumaris

13
Beaumaris is a small town located on Anglesey's east coast with views towards Llandudno and the mountains of Snowdonia.
The name Beaumaris literally means 'Beautiful Marsh' and visitors can easily see why.
The town is a popular tourist destination for its beauty and good mix of activities and places to stay.
If you are interested in a trip to Snowdonia it can be easily reached from Beaumaris and is just 30 minutes away by car.
Finding somewhere to stay in Beaumaris is never a problem as the town has a wide promenade with a good selection of hotels and a little further back there are many guest houses and b&b's to choose from.
If you're looking for a little more independence there's a good variety of self catering accommodation from holiday cottages and apartments to caravan and camp sites.
The most visited attraction in Beaumaris is Beaumaris Castle and many people visit the town purely for this reason.
The castle is an excellent example of medieval architecture and was originally built on the orders of King Edward I of the England as part of his plan to subdue the Welsh uprisings in the 12th century.
Beaumaris Castle was one of a number that were built but unlike all the other castles of the time this was built using a concentric design.
Unfortunately building work on the castle was never completed but visitors can still walk around the ruins and take in the wonderful sights and feelings of power from the period.
There are plenty of other attractions in Beaumaris as well from watersports activities to museums such as the Museum of Childhood Memories which takes visitors on a journey to the toys of yesteryear.
Another attraction well worth a visit is the Beaumaris Gaol in which criminals were tried and executed.
Take a tour through the courthouse and the dungeons and learn of the famous executions from the past.
