Valet Parking - The End of Airport Parking Nightmares!
Off on holidays again and I was expecting the usual problem of sorting out the airport car parking at Edinburgh airport.
This is always one of those frustrating experiences when you arrive at the airport and you have to drive miles to the nearest car park.
When you get there you are corralled to a far off car park section denoted by a letter of the alphabet (and I always forget which one when I return so I spend hours looking for my old rust bucket).
Often it is raining and the family trudges off to the bus stop and we wait patiently until the bus arrives.
To be honest they are never that long but it doesn't stop me from beginning to panic if we will actually get the terminal in time to check in - my fault for booking a budget airline - but I'll be damned if we miss the plane and the idea of spending hours with grumpy kids is not the perfect way to start a holiday.
It's never happened of course but I keep on thinking that it will.
So I was going through the usual turmoil until a friend told me about valet parking.
Valet parking - what a different airport car parking experience - it actually seems too good to be true.
I was sorting out my Edinburgh Airport car parking so I thought I would give valet parking a go.
All you have to do is book it and you drive upto to the terminal and very nice man (or could be a lady, although that is yet to happen to me) will meet and greet you.
You hand over your keys and, after removing your luggage and children, they will drive it away.
For us, it is a very short walk to the terminal building and we can check in with no worries at all.
One week later and we return.
On booking we had already told the valet parking company what time our flight was due in and our flight number.
When we arrived we gave the company a call to say we were here and they said they would meet us in around 20 minutes, allowing us plenty of time to go through passport control and collect our luggage.
They were in fact 30 minutes, rather than the 20 so I was slightly miffed until, when they arrived, they told me that my car's battery had gone flat and they had to re-start it.
As this is a reasonably regular occurrence I was delighted as I would have had to go round begging for someone to give me a jump start in the car park, or even worse call in the breakdown services to sort me out - and even more waiting.
So valet parking - what a delight! I would recommend it to anyone.
And what about the cost? Well, it seems that it is not much more expensive than normal Edinburgh airport car parking so well worth it.
I now feel so more at ease when going to the airport - all I mustn't do is forget to book the valet parking!
