Take Back Your Life: Beat Anxiety

12
We've all felt anxious at one time or another.
Whether it was because we were waiting for a phone call or facing something we didn't want to do, the feeling of anxiety is one none of us are a stranger to.
But some of us are more familiar with anxiety than others, and while for many of us anxiety is an unpleasant but thankfully rare feeling, for others it is ubiquitous.
Anxiety is not only unpleasant, it can be a serious risk to the sufferer's health.
Stress can cause any number of health issues, from ulcers to migraines.
Conditions such as diabetes and heart disease have even been linked to stress.
Anxiety can also cause panic attacks and intense nausea.
Far from being a condition someone can just "get over", it's a serious problem that can make life very difficult for those who suffer from it.
All things considered, anxiety is something to be taken seriously, and someone suffering from it may need help in overcoming it.
It can be hard to speak up about suffering from anxiety, thanks to many unhelpful and judgemental attitudes that still persist even in this modern age.
Even a sufferer of anxiety themselves might feel silly for having such debilitating and intense feelings - but getting over anxiety, no matter what some people say, usually isn't as easy as just "grinning and bearing it".
It's important to realise that if you suffer from anxiety, you and the importance of your problem deserve respect and attention.
While there are prescribed medications for anxiety, a good doctor will likely advise that you tackle the source of the anxiety before or while you medicate it - it simply isn't practical to rely on medication forever, and there are sometimes side effects to some of the medication prescribed.
Always research medication before taking it; make sure you avoid any unpleasant surprises.
Effectiveness will always vary on the person, however many people have found therapy to be a great coping tool for anxiety.
With the right therapist and a good attitude, it's possible to figure out the source of your anxiety - and more importantly, how to cope with it.
Some people may be able to banish their anxiety completely, while others will learn how to keep it under control.
Either way is preferable to living under the strain of it every day.
Anxiety shouldn't rule your life, and it doesn't have to.
Beat anxiety: take back your life.
