Ferrari Enzo Vs. Lamborghini Murcielago
- Muscular lines define the Enzo.
Enzo Ferrari has been building race cars since 1928, but didn't produce road sports cars until 1947. He treated his production cars like a red-headed stepchild at the family picnic. Selling production models were simply a means to finance his race cars. Otherwise, he couldn't be bothered with dealing with the motoring public he considered amateurs. - The Lambo Murcielago.
Ferruccio Lamborghini founded Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. in 1963 after he complained to Enzo Ferrari about one of the Ferrari production models. Ferrari insulted Lamborghini's driving abilities, prompting Lamborghini to develop his own car. The result was the deceptively simple, but high-performance 350GT. - Interior of the Ferrari Enzo.
The mid-engine V-12 Murcie has been in production since 2001, while the Enzo model only saw service from 2002-2004. The Murcie sells new for about $450,000. The more rare Enzo fetched up to $650,000, since only 400 were manufactured. More than 3,000 Murcies have been built. Both cars can achieve a $1 million bid today at auction. - The Murcie roadster and coupe.
The current Murcie is placed on a 104.9-inch wheelbase, weighs 3,638 pounds and measures 181.5 inches long. The V-12 is built with light-alloy materials with power transmitted via a six-speed manual transmission. The engine is cooled by twin radiators. - Note the Formula 1 style nose for better performance at high speeds.
The Enzo possesses roughly the same dimensions as the Murcie, but is considerably lighter with Formula 1 racing technology used to keep its weight at 2,767 pounds. It sits on a 104.3-inch wheelbase and measures 185.1 inches long. - The Murcie can hit a top speed of 211 mph.
The early Murcie's V-12 generated 632 horsepower and 487-pound-feet of torque. It clocked 0 to 62 mph at 3.4 seconds and the quarter-mile in 12 seconds at 121 mph. Top speed is 211 mph. The Murcie's exterior is less angular than previous Lambo models and comes as a targa-topped roadster or a coupe. Typically, Lambos don't offer much in cabin comfort and the Murcie is no exception with a Spartan interior. - The Enzo's Formula 1-style front end and lightweight construction gives it a slight edge over the Murcie in overall performance. Enzo's mid-engine V-12 offers 660 hp and 472-pound-feet of torque. In a slightly different time trial of 0 to 60 mph, the Enzo registers a 3.6-second clocking. But its quarter-mile speed is 11 seconds at 130 mph. Maximum speed is 217 mph. Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina designs the elegant body and the cabin is engineered to be amazingly quiet to make the 660 horses easy on the ears.
