How to Fix a Good Dog Pen

17
    • 1). Slip on your gloves and cut around the damaged area in your pen to remove any sharp or broken wires. Your dog can be seriously injured if these are not fixed.

    • 2). Snip a length of wire from your roll and thread it through the hole in your fence. Wrap one end firmly around one side of the hole, twisting the wire with your pliers to hold it secure. Pull the wire tightly over the hole and wrap the remaining end around the solid wire at the other end of the hole. Repeat this wrapping process until you have secured the hole and your dog cannot escape from it.

    • 3). Cut around the inside of the hole to make room for a patch if the hole is too large to close with wire. Trim a matching patch from your excess chain link and hold it over the hole in your pen, wrapping small pieces of wire around the patch and existing fence to keep them together. Push firmly on the patch from both sides to make sure it holds firm if your dog pushes on it.

    • 4). Repeat the patching process on any holes or gaps in your pen. Check the bottom of the pen and corners carefully, as many dogs are especially fond of digging and pushing against these vulnerable areas in an attempt to get loose.

    • 5). Place your dog in the pen and observe him quietly from a distance to make sure you have fixed any weak spots in your pen. If your dog gets out or begins to tear up a new spot in the pen, remove him and fix any remaining holes to keep him safe and secure.
