5 Day Mini Cleanse
This mini-cleanse is great for individuals who have never cleansed before. It is a gentle cleanse filled with nutrient and fibre rich foods to clean out your system and give your organs a break from any processed ingredients that are much harder to digest. Here are the key steps in the five day cleanse:
1. Eliminate coffee. One of the most common and (unfortunately) socially acceptable addictions in our society today is to caffeine. Although coffee does contain antioxidants, and some argue that one cup a day is in fact good for you, it may be doing more harm than good to your body. Coffee is acidic, a diuretic
, and can often make you feel shaky when cleansing. Most people also drink their coffee with unhealthy additions such as cream and sugar. Instead of coffee, drink herbal, green, or white tea. You will get more antioxidants from a cup of tea than you will coffee, along with other health benefits. Tea does not contain any calories and is much easier on your system than coffee. The first day or two without coffee you will probably find that you have a bit of a headache. This should go away within a few days. The inability to go without something in your diet for a few days is a sure sign that you should give it up.
2. Fill your plate with colorful foods. Eating an abundance of colorful foods will ensure that you are getting the proper minerals and nutrients. The most colorful foods are fruits and vegetables which are high in fibre, antioxidants, and phytonutrients, which help prevent and treat disease in the body. Eat bell peppers of all colours, carrots, tomatoes
, broccoli, berries, pineapple, and more to give you energy and nutrients while flushing out your system.
3. Eat lean protein. Lean protein is an important part of any diet, and when you are cleansing it will help you to not feel hungry. The best options are egg whites, chicken, turkey, fish, and soy. Ideally you should have a piece of lean protein with every meal and snack. Proteins secrete the hormone glucagon, which helps with fat loss. Avoid red meat and dairy for 5 days, and when you come off of the cleanse, try to eat these foods only in moderation.
