So what do you need to look for when buying a trap - First, before you do any purchasing or trapping, it is a good idea to check your local and state ordinances.
In some areas, trapping squirrels is regulated and only professionals can legally trap squirrels.
Here are a few things to look for in a trap: Is the cage bare galvanized wire, or is it coated? Coated cages will last longer.
Is it big enough? Some say the smallest should be seven inch square by 24 inch.
If you get a big squirrel in a small cage, their tail may get stuck in the door which may help them get out.
Does it have one or two doors? Some say that one door is just as good as two, and is cheaper, too! Others agree in that it is the user's preference which really dictates.
Some cages come with covers.
The covers are placed over the cage after the squirrel is in it.
The covers are more for the trapper than the squirrel.
Some people (trappers) don't want to get near the trapped squirrel.
Other things to consider.
Some manufacturers sell squirrel "controllers".
These allow the squirrel to enter but not escape (or exit).
Some of these controllers can be extended for multiple squirrels.
