Caius Marius (aka Marius or Gaius Marius) was a remarkable Roman leader. Not only did he rise from obscurity to reach the highest office, but he attained it a record-breaking seven times. He married into the family of Julius Caesar. During his illustrious career, Caius Marius and his erstwhile subordinate Sulla almost tore Rome apart with their rivalry.
