How to Change File Associations in XP
- 1). Right-click the file you want to change.
- 2). Select "Open With" and pick the "Choose Program" option.
- 3). Select the program to which you want to associate that file type. You can select a program from the provided list or click the "Browse" button to manually search your computer for a compatible program.
- 4). Click the box next to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" so it's filled with a check mark.
- 5). Click the "OK" button. All files of the same file type will now be associated with the program you selected.
- 1). Click the "Start" button. Open "My Computer."
- 2). Select the "File Types" tab in the Folder Options menu.
- 3). Select the type of file you want to change by clicking it on the provided list and click the "Change..." button. This takes you to the Open With menu.
- 4). Select the program to which you want to associate that file type. You can select a program from the provided list or click the "Browse" button to manually search your computer for a compatible program.
- 5). Click the box next to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" so its filled with a check mark.
- 6). Click the "OK" button to return to the Folder Options menu.
- 7). Repeat Step 4 through Step 7 as many times as necessary.
- 8). Click the "OK" button to close the Folder Options menu.
