How to Move a Car by Truck
- 1). Identify a vehicle mover in your area. Vehicle moving (transportation) companies are listed in the phone book as well as on the internet under "Vehicle Moving." Contact a company in your area and arrange pickup of your vehicle. You will get pricing and estimated delivery charges for the transportation of your vehicle. You will get your actual charges and delivery date and time from the truck driver once he examines your contract and loads your vehicle. In most cases, charges are due at time of delivery to the new location.
- 2). Prepare the vehicle. Most vehicle moving companies will give you a checklist of how to prepare your vehicle for transport, such as removing loose items that might fall off during transport and assuring that the vehicle is operable to drive on and off of the truck. You will also fill out a vehicle report describing the condition of your vehicle.
- 3). Load the vehicle. Once the arrangements have been made, the trucking company will give you a time and place to have the vehicle. Take the vehicle to the predetermined location and meet the truck. The truck driver will load your vehicle and give you a time and date to pick your vehicle up at its destination location.
- 4). Pick up the vehicle. The trucking company will call you when your vehicle is ready to be retrieved. Meet the truck at the predetermined location and inspect your vehicle for damage. If you are satisfied with the delivery you can take your vehicle to its new home. In the case of damage, note the damage on the vehicle report you filled out before pickup and have the truck driver sign it. This will aid in recovery of funds from the transportation company.
