What Are the Advantages of Living in a Territory?

24

    Isolation and Nature

    • Some territories, like the Northwest Territories in Canada, have small populations. Although the territories often have vibrant cities and towns, you may find living in a territory peaceful if you're tired of the hustle and bustle of large, densely packed urban areas. Since many territories have small populations spread out over large areas, the territories are sometimes less developed than the rest of the country. If you're looking to experience nature firsthand, you may find it possible to enjoy outdoor activities, such as camping, fishing or hunting in your backyard.

    Weather and Location

    • Many territories, such as the British Overseas Territories, are located in warm tropical locations. Destinations such as Anguilla allow residents to enjoy British conveniences and customs in a warm environment that would otherwise be little more than a vacation destination. Not every country has warm and sunny weather, but as the territories are often located far from the geographical location of the country, the territories sometimes present a pleasant alternative to the climate you're used to.

    Money

    • There are often monetary reasons to live in the country. Tax laws will differ from country to country, but some nations, like Canada provide tax incentives to individuals looking to move to a sparsely populated territory. Of course, getting simple goods like fresh fruit, can be expensive, but once you get used to the diet, you may find yourself saving money.

    Culture

    • Since territories were often incorporated into countries at a later date, the territories often maintain cultures independently from that of the country. Guam is one of America's territories and enjoys many rich traditions including greeting customs, ceremonial dances and special forms of weaving. A territory may even have its own dialects or languages. If you're looking for something different than what you're used to, living in a territory may be the answer.
