The act provides compensation for disabilities or death occurring directly as a result of the employee's duties. Disabled workers typically receive two-thirds of their usual salaries for the duration of their disability and possibly more for permanent injuries or to provide for dependents. The Office of Workers' Compensation Programs administers the Federal Employment Compensation Act.

    Merchant Marine Act

    • The Merchant Marine Act (also known as the Jones Act) is similar to the Federal Employment Liability Act as it provides the same protection for maritime workers.

Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act

    • The Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act was enacted by Congress to cover specific workers employed by maritime operators. It is administered by the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs.

    Black Lung Benefits Act

    • The Black Lung Benefits Act is intended to compensate miners afflicted with pneumoconiosis (black lung). The act established a fund through the secretary of labor to provide compensation for mine workers in the event that the mine operator is unable to do so. The Black Lung Benefits Act is administered by the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs.
