Tips For Preventing Hearing Loss In Kindergarteners

41
If you are a mother with small children, or a kindergarten teacher, then you are well aware of the fact that young children like to get into everything. They will crawl, climb and run everywhere sticking their hands in things they shouldn't, eating things they shouldn't be eating and constantly trying to put things in their nose and ears. As such, it is incredibly important that you keep a watchful eye on your kids or students in order to ensure that you protect their hearing and that they don't inadvertently cause any damage to themselves.

For starters, make sure to keep all art supplies and small objects well out of reach of children as they will definitely have the tendency to want to cram anything they find into their ears and can do irreparable damage to their hearing or their ear drums. Make sure that you always supervise the children when they are drawing or coloring and be sure that there are no small artifacts or toys lying about. Children are definitely prone to exploring and experimenting through putting things in their mouth nose and ears so it is essential that you do all you can to keep small items out of the way.

Also, be sure to train your child to listen to music or the television at a low volume so that they develop the habit into adulthood and will not cause damage to their hearing at a young age by listening to the music too loudly or by exposing themselves to loud noises on a continual basis. This is especially important as technology produces items such as mp3 players and wireless headphones so that you have sound right at the base of your ear drum and if not carefully monitored, it could potentially cause harm.

Also, make sure that when your young children go off to camp or take swimming lessons, that they always wear ear plugs. Although, they will make a fuss at first because it is uncomfortable and awkward, you must insist that the children wear ear plugs in the water as children tend to get ear infections from water logged ears and to much exposure to the pool. It is important that you take all the necessary precautions to ensure that your kids and your students are well cared for and that their hearing remains in tact well into their adult life. Because of the explorative nature of children, you must keep a watchful eye on them at all times and make sure that they are safe and not getting into dangerous situations as they are too young to care for themselves.

As long as you take a few simple precautions and make sure that you are watchful over the children, you should have no issues and should be able to keep them healthy at all times with regard to their hearing. Don't be too overprotective though, as it will just frustrate the child and make them less likely to follow your advice.
