How to Paint on Sliding Glass Doors
- 1). Clean your doors, inside and out, with a window cleaner and newspaper, or some other lint-free wipe. Avoid paper towels, as they tend to leave lint behind.
- 2). Use painter's tape and newspaper to cover the door frames, handles, tracks, the floor below the door and the sides of the wall around the door to protect them from paint splashes or drips.
- 3). Look for images that you want to put on your door. Use posters, cut outs from magazines, coloring books or any other pictures you may like. Tape them to the inside of the glass doors, facing outside. Be sure you like their placement before proceeding.
- 4). Take a dry-erase marker outside. Trace the lines of the images you want to paint right onto the glass. Use the images taped to the inside of the window as your guidelines.
- 5). Go back indoors and remove the images taped on the door. Pour tempera or acrylic paints in the colors of your choice onto a palette or plastic disposable dish.
- 6). Paint directly onto the glass to fill in your images with color using craft paint brushes. Rinse your brushes thoroughly in water and dry them on paper towels when you want to switch colors. If you make a mistake, wipe that part away with paper towels while the paint is still wet and try again. Your guidelines are drawn on the other side of the glass, so you don't have to worry about wiping them away.
- 7). Go back outside when you have finished your paint job and see how it looks. Go indoors and make changes if you feel it is necessary. When you are satisfied, go outdoors and wipe the outside of the glass to clean off the dry erase marker.
- 8). Remove the newspaper and painter's tape. Recover the frames, tracks, walls and floor when you are ready to remove the paint. Remove the paint by scraping it off with a razor held with the blade flat against the glass. Clean away remnants with glass cleaner and paper towels.
