How to Get Crust Off an Iron Skillet
- 1). Scrape off the majority of the crust using wooden spoon. Never use a metal object to scrape because you'll damage the non-stick surface.
- 2). Place the iron skillet over low heat; add one cup of rock salt to skillet and let it heat up.
- 3). Rub the remaining crust by moving the heated rock salt over the iron skillet with a cloth. Protect your hands from the heat with oven mitts.
- 4). Remove the iron skillet from heat and pour out the rock salt. Let it cool a bit; scrub the surface with a soft scrubber to remove the rest of the crust. Do not use an abrasive scrubber.
- 5). Wipe down the iron skillet with a clean cloth.
