    • 1). Go to the official Weather Channel Desktop website to download the application. Once there, click on the red “Free Download Now” tab. Your download should begin shortly.

    • 2). Install the Weather Channel Desktop.

    • 3). Enter your zip code or the name of your city or town in the box that appears after the Weather Channel Desktop has been installed. Once you do this, the program will search for your exact location. Click on the name of your town or city after it appears on the screen.

    • 4). Click on the blue temperature icon in the bottom right portion of your taskbar. This will maximize the Weather Channel Desktop on your screen.

    • 5). Select “Extended Forecasts” from the options in the top left portion of the program to read either a 12-hour or a 10-day forecast. The forecast will scroll across the screen from left to right. You can see a smaller forecast by using the tabs at the bottom of the screen. With this option, you can choose either “Hourly,” “36 Hour,” “3 Day” or “Weekend.” The forecast you select will appear at the bottom of the screen.

    • 6). Use the “Weather Maps” option (found below “Extended Forecasts") to look at local radar and a large variety of other maps. Once you select “Weather Maps,” you can click either “Interactive Map” or “More Maps.” The interactive map shows moving precipitation in your area. You can also choose a different radar map, a national weather and temperatures map and even a satellite picture.

    • 7). Click the “Local Traffic” tab to see a map of roads in your area. This map will show if any highways or other important roadways are experiencing congestion or other incidents such as an accident. These reports are updated about every 15 minutes.

    • 8). Explore the other tabs to get a feel for the program. The “Weather News” tab, for example, gives you stories regarding national weather stories such as hurricanes. Select the “Outdoor Living” tab to learn how today's weather will affect your allergies. Which tabs you use on a daily basis will depend on where you live and what you want to know at a particular time.
