Acne affects a very large number of people young and old.
Although the condition is associated with teens it can strike at any age.
Acne is usually caused by hormonal imbalance, which is why it often happens during adolescence.
But hormones can change at any time in life.
Pregnancy and the menopause are just two other major times of hormonal stress for the body.
There are a huge array of products on the market all claiming that they are the best acne cure; the real question is how you choose your top acne products.
Many people are swayed by the claims of advertisers or endorsements by celebrities, but you need to be aware that these people are being paid to help a manufacturer take your money.
Many of the claims made about a product are made by people who have never used the lotion or cream they are selling.
Choosing a product that will work on your acne and with your skin is something that can only be done by you.
Different skin types will react differently to different products.
When I first experienced acne I immediately reached for the lotion that my brother used - it worked for him.
Unfortunately my skin reacted completely differently and within days my face was far worse than when I started.
It was not a bad product - just not right for me.
So just how do you go about choosing the products that will become your top acne remedies? Firstly consider your skin type.
Is it oily or dry?Does it tend to react to cleansers and soaps or are you able to use any skin treatments? Is the acne wide spread or do you get one or two big spots? Do you also have visible blackheads? You need to choose a product that will treat the condition underlying your acne.
  • If you have blackheads you need a scrub that will gently exfoliate the skin and unblock pores.
  • If your skin is oily avoid creams and go for lotions which are must less likely to add to the oilyness.
  • If your skin is sensitive you may be better choosing natural herbal products over harsh chemicals.
  • If you are aware that your acne is linked to hormonal changes there are homeopathic remedies that will help balance you body.
Be sure to give a product time to work.
Some may not give visible results for several weeks.
Particularly those that are treating the route cause and not just the symptoms.
If your skin reacts to a product make a note of the active ingredients.
Many products use similar ingredients and if you have reacted to something in one product it is likely you will get a similar reaction to lotions containing the same active ingredients.
Once you have found a product that works for you stick with it.
It may be a fairly lengthy process involving some trial and error, but if you follow these tips you will be able to home in on the product that is right for you.
Then before you know it you will be enjoying visibly clearer skin.
