Spa treatments can be relaxing, luxurious and effective for a variety of cosmetic complaints. One setback, however, is the expense of these treatments. Home spa remedies, however, can be performed more affordably. Many of the ingredients for the treatments can be found in the kitchen and the mixtures can be made quickly and easily whenever you feel like treating yourself. - Apples contain elastin and collagen, helping to boost the skin's radiance and reduce wrinkles, while cucumbers contain ascorbic acid, caffeic acid and silica, which soothe the skin and reduce puffiness and swelling. Blending and using your own apple and cucumber facial treatment can give you smooth, glowing skin and reduce redness and irritation.
Blend the flesh of half a cucumber, an egg white, half a teaspoon of lemon juice, half a teaspoon of lime juice, a thick slice of apple and a handful of mint leaves in a food processor until smooth, then mix in a drop of lime essential oil. Chill for 10 minutes then apply an even layer to your clean face and neck. Rinse thoroughly with warm water after 20 minutes and pat the area dry with a clean towel. - When used as a body scrub, coffee grounds have the effect of tightening the skin and reducing the appearance of cellulite as well as sloughing away dead skin cells and giving off an invigorating aroma.
To make your own coffee scrub, mix 2 cups of coarsely ground coffee beans with half a cup of fine sea salt and 2 to 3 tablespoons of massage oil. Rub the mixture thoroughly onto your skin, concentrating on rough areas, then rinse with warm water and pat dry with a towel. - To prepare your hands and feet for a manicure or pedicure, the nail technician will often apply a nourishing hand treatment or mask. Avocados are a rich source of potassium and vitamins A, B, D and E, making them the ideal natural moisturizer.
Make your own avocado hand and foot treatment by blending half a mashed avocado, an egg yolk, 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of rice bran and 10 drops of oil of evening primrose in a food processor until evenly mixed. Massage the mixture into your clean hands and feet and leave to soak in for 20 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with lukewarm water and patting the areas dry with a towel.
