How to Assemble Fishing Lures At Home
- 1). Select a 6 to 8 inch length of lure-making wire for creating an inline spinner. Place the wire in the jaws of a pair of needle nose pliers. Position the pliers on the wire about 3/4 inch from one end.
- 2). Slide a hook in the size of your choice onto the end of the wire below the pliers. The hook size will be determined by personal preference as well as the species of fish you will be trying to catch. Slide the hook next to the pliers.
- 3). Form a "U" shape by bending the wire with a second pair of pliers up and around the jaws of the pliers holding the wire. Bend the wire up around the hook and jaws of the pliers and then around the main wire to secure it in place. Remove the first pair of pliers and you will have a closed loop formed that is holding the hook in place.
- 4). Slide three to four metal beads onto the wire and down to the bent wire. Select metal beads for weight and also mix in one or two plastic or glass beads for color. Vary the size of the beads based on the overall size of the lure as well as the amount of weight needed.
- 5). Insert a clevis into the hole of a spinner blade. Choose from a variety of blade shapes including willow and Colorado. Slide the clevis onto the wire. Feed the wire through the holes on the ends of the "U" shaped clevis. Position the clevis and blade next to the beads. Place one or two more beads on the wire next to the clevis and blade if desired.
- 6). Hold the wire once again in the jaws of a pair of needle nose pliers. Position the pliers about 3/4 inch from the top bead on the wire. Slide a split ring onto the wire and next to the pliers. Using a second pair of pliers, bend the wire around the ring and jaws of the first pliers and wrap the free end of the wire around the main wire, forming a loop and securing the split ring in place.
