Discover The Power Of Transcending The Ego
We live in a dualistic universe where everything that exists is in relation to everything else in existence. When we talk about our ego we must also realize that the opposite of the ego is with us at all times, just as the ego is. The opposite of our ego is what I call the sacred self.
When we go to the voice in our head, the voice sounds the same whether the advice comes from our sacred self or the ego. The advice that we choose to use is usually the advice that aligns us with our base thoughts. Our base thoughts are those thoughts taught to us by our first teachers, our parents, and in this modern age, the television. Our parents were conditioned the same way we are and (unless they are enlightened) reinforce the base thought that you are separate from everybody else and you need to be better than the next guy to win in the game of life (the television continually reinforces these base thoughts).
The ego seems to have the ears of the listener when it comes to all matters external. For many people, if not most, this continues for the duration of their lives. The sacred self still talks to us, but it is more easily accessed by going within rather than trying to hear its message externally. When we go within ourselves and tap into our sacred self we expose ourselves to an entirely different perspective on how we view the world.
When we go within ourselves for sustenance we realize that we are more than our body.
When we go within we begin to bring the balancing influence of the soul into our life's journey.
When we go within we begin to realize our authentic power.
When we go within we see the importance of our sacred self and our internal guidance system.
When we go within we begin to change how we view the world.
When we go within we start to move out of our comfort zone to a place of more awareness and control of our destiny.
When we go within we begin to listen to our sacred self and question the values of the ego that we have clung to for so long.
When we go within we connect with the oneness mentality and see the interconnectedness of all things.
When we go within we see that judgments are merely labels we put on people and things we don't like about ourselves.
The ego doesn't like it when you go within because you take the ego out of its comfort zone. The ego likes being in charge and will use tricks and deceit to keep its position of power.
As you begin to wake up and become aware you realize that the ego's power is external and is no match for the authentic power that resides within you. It is in this awakening that you realize how unconscious you have been. As you keep with it and continue going within yourself to exercise and build your authentic power you loosen the stranglehold that the ego has had on your life. The fog clears from your windshield, and you view the world through a clear perspective. It is truly like you have been in a deep sleep, and now you can see the light of day and all of the opportunities open to you.
You are free to choose the path that serves you best. This awakening allows you to choose from the infinite number of choices available to you instead of the limited selection presented to you by your ego. You are now aware of your spirit and the peace, joy, harmony and love that is inherit to it.
But the ego doesn't just die and go away. Just as the sacred self has been with you all along, so is the ego with you for your entire journey, to show you what the sacred self is not. It's like all muscles: The more we use our muscles the stronger we are, and the less we use them the weaker we are. When you wake up you start exercising the muscles of your sacred self. Your sacred self gets stronger and you are able to use it more effectively.
The best way to keep the ego at bay is to be aware and live consciously. The ego likes deceit and trickery. These are easy to use on unconscious sleepwalkers. When you are in balance with the mind, body and spirit, you are more conscious and let the light of your being shine brightly. This light exposes the deceit and trickery of the ego, which prefers the dark shadows.
The key to waking up to the light of your spiritual side is to go within yourself and start asking the questions that cannot be answered outside of yourself by the external world and the five senses. Become aware of your ego. When you are undecided on whether an issue will serve you or not, ask this question. What would love do now? Let love and your sacred self be your guide.
