How to Fix a Septic Field
- 1). Call a plumbing specialist to pump the septic tank. This removes toilet and drainage wastes from the septic system. Root growth in the septic tank and field lines can also be examined.
- 2). Pour 1 cup of active yeast culture down the toilet, then flush. When the toilet water refills, flush again. Treat the septic system with active yeast at night before going to bed or in the morning before leaving for work. The yeast needs time to penetrate the tank and break down solid wastes without interruption. Wait one day before proceeding to Step 3.
- 3). Dissolve 2 pounds of copper sulfate solution in a cup of water. Pour the dissolved solution in the toilet, then flush. Flush the toilet a second time. Use the copper sulfate solution in the morning before leaving for work or at night before going to bed. The copper sulfate solution needs time to dissolve and remove roots and solid waste from the septic tank and field lines.
- 4). Rent or purchase an electric septic auger. Run the auger down the tiolet and into the septic tank to dissolve and remove roots and solid waste materials from the septic tank and field lines.
