28
All the talk nowadays seems to be about helping small businesses get on the first page of Google. This leaves many with the impression that once they are on the first page their phone will be ringing off the hook with thousands of customers.

Local SEO companies push the idea that all you need is some high ranking keywords to catapult you to the front page of Google and your set. But there is more to it than just that. Think about it for a minute. The SEO company did what they said and got you to the first page of Google, but all you hear is the sound of crickets. Now what?

You really can't blame them. They did what they said they would do€¦. which was to get you on the first page of Google. What many small business owners fail to realize is that once you're on the first page you have to follow through by providing those visitors with the information they came looking for. You have to close the sale.

In today's online world 84% of people use the internet to locate services. Gone are the days where people pull out the Yellow Pages, flip through the pages to find a local dentist, counselor, chiropractor, etc., dial the number and set up an appointment.
The educated consumer has now become a scholar thanks to the Internet.

People go online type in a keyword or keyword phrase, €Dentists in Atlanta€, wait for a list to pop up and usually check out the top three that are listed. They go to the website looking for specific information on services provided, location, hours of operation, payment methods.

If they're calling you on the phone, it's to close the deal with an appointment or sale because they've found everything they need to know about you online and feel that you can provide the service they need.

If your phone is not ringing, there are several things you need to ask yourself €¦€What is my website saying to visitors?€ You may be getting hundreds of visitors to your site daily but what is your compelling message to get them to become customers?

Is your website user friendly? Why does your website look like it was built in the 90's? Do they have to sift through tons of information to find what they're looking for? These are all questions you need to ask yourself.

Time is a precious commodity and people aren't going to spend their time on a treasure hunt for information. They're on to the next site in a matter of seconds if they can't find what they're looking for from you.

Potential customers also look to see if people have left comments about your business. People trust what others have to say about their experience at your business. This is €extremely important!€.

You could be on the first page of Google ranking in the top three spots but one of those spots could list negative reviews about your business. One bad review could wipe out your chances of converting visitors into customers.

You definitely don't want to rank high on any search engine for negative reviews.

These are just a few things you need to be aware of before you shell out a ton of money to hire someone for SEO services. Optimizing your site for the search engines to find you is great but it's customers who keep you in business. You need to give them what they're looking for€¦..INFORMATION THAT HAS VALUE.
