The 2002 Firebird Trans Am, was the performance-oriented Firebird, and 2002 marked its last model year. Pontiac built the 2002 Firebird Trans Am with its most powerful engine ever to grace the model, as well as the most aggressive styling the muscle car had seen. - The standard 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was powered by General Motors's LT1 V8 engine. This V8 motor has a 5.7 L displacement. The LT1 16-valve OHV engine has a 3.90-inch bore, 3.62-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 10 to 1. This powerplant generates 310 hp at 5,200 rpm and 340 ft.-lbs. of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 310 hp engine was offered in non-WS6 model Trans Ams.
