    • 1). Right-click on the BAT file and click "Properties."

    • 2). Click the "General" tab if it is not already selected. Once selected, click "Advanced."

    • 3). Click the "Encrypt Contents to Secure Data" box and click "OK." You will now be given an encryption certificate that contains a key you must enter to access the BAT file.

    • 4). Insert a flash drive into the USB port of the computer and open "My Computer." Find the USB flash drive in "My Computer" and open it to view the contents of the drive.

    • 5). Drag and drop the encryption certificate to the USB drive, which will back up the certificate in the event you lose the original copy. Every time you open the encrypted BAT file you will need to enter the key in the certificate to have access to the file.
