How to Install Floating Floors on Concrete

18
    • 1). Clean and dry the entire concrete floor . Cover it entirely with plastic underlayment, rolling it out in courses (strips resting edge-to-edge). Cut the ends and tape the edges together with duct tape to form one unbroken surface covering the entire area.

    • 2). Connect several floating floor planks end to end and set them next to the wall where you’re going to start the flooring. Set the boards with their grooved edges facing the wall. Put shims between the boards and the wall to create a space that will allow the boards to expand.

    • 3). Lay the whole first course along the wall, cutting the end piece to size and shape on a miter saw.

    • 4). Set the next course of boards along the first, connecting the boards by their long edges. Stagger the positions of the ends of the boards so they don’t line up between courses. Repeat the process for each new course, working your way across the floor.

    • 5). Use a table saw to cut along the lengths of the boards in the final course, making them wide enough the fill the remaining space while leaving a 1/4 gap by the wall, to allow for expansion.

    • 6). Cut floor trim on your miter saw to fit around the perimeter where the walls and floor meet. Affix the trim to the walls with trim nails and a hammer. The trim will hide the expansion spaces and hold down the edges of the flooring.
