    • 1). Place the two 94 1/2-inch 1-by-3-inch boards on a building surface so they are resting on their 1-inch sides and are parallel. Place the two 48-inch 1-by-3-inch boards on the building surface perpendicular to the long boards and resting on their 1-inch sides. This will create a rectangular frame. The longer pieces should be in between the shorter ones. Use the framing square to make sure all the angles are at 90 degrees and screw the frame together by driving 1-inch screws through the shorter pieces into the ends of the longer pieces.

    • 2). Measure 48 inches along the longer side of the frame and mark. This should be the center of the frame. Place the 46 1/2-inch 1-by-3-inch board inside the frame at this location as a cross beam. Attach it to the frame by driving 1-inch screws through the frame into the ends of the cross beam.

    • 3). Place the piece of luan over the rectangular frame to completely cover one side. Staple the luan to the frame around the perimeter, spacing the staples every 6 inches. The luan is the "wall" surface.

    • 4). Stand the flat up so it is resting on a 48-inch side. Secure the flat to the stage by driving screws down through the 1-by-3-inch board and into the stage floor.
