Preschool Vision Screening
Preschool Vision Screening
PVS is widely recommended by multiple professional and medical organizations as an effective method for detecting preventable and treatable pediatric vision problems. There does remain, however, variability in the specific recommendations. Although advances in technology have made it possible to screen larger numbers of children more quickly and at younger ages, screening rates remain low. Individual screening programs have been successful at screening large numbers of children, these programs require large numbers of highly motivated volunteers and outside funding. Hopefully, as more is understood about the value of PVS for preventing lifelong visual impairment, increased efforts will continue to assure all children receive this important service.
