About.com Rating

At first listen, "Dance With Me" wasn't all that thrilling. And to tell you the truth, I wasn't really expecting much through repeated listens. I found it generic and stale, something that possibly would have been great pre-Freemasons/Shapeshifters but really falls through the cracks these days.

I can safely say, though, that my original estimation was incorrect. "Dance With Me" is not groundbreaking.

It isn't new. You've heard it before, hundreds of times. And you will hear it hundreds of times again. But for now, it's just cute enough to stick around.

Fabien, the track's singer, proves that she needs a more empowered vehicle to really show her stuff in the dance world. "Dance With Me" is a good track for her, vocally, but there just isn't enough vocal meat to it to really do her justice. However, the style of music definitely suits her. Her voice is pleasant to listen to, and really fits with the laidback grooves all the mixes provide for her.

Most of the mixes are perfect for a tea dance, but not really suitable for a dark clubby experience. The lyrics are few and the vocals all sound sort of faded and chorus-like, so all of the mixes have a real dubby sound to them. The hardest mix is DJ Cobra's trance mix, and while it sort of works, it also sort of doesn't. It is actually pretty standard trance fare. I would prefer something a little new in the world of trance. The Glamour Katz provide the most comfortable mix of the bunch, with some great strings and a great mellow groove.

RDF Project's mix sounds like it would fit in all too well on a Hed Kandi or Housexy compilation, the bass and beats a little heavier than the Glamour Katz and a more standard house feel to it. The Freemasons would be proud of Ty Karlsson's Overdub Mix, who really amps it up for a feelgood disco house vibe. Nue Vue supplies us with a filler mix which everyone should glaze over. And don't feel too excited about Lucius Lowe's original mixes, unless you really like the type of music Defected usually puts out: glossy, plastic house music.

Summary – Fabien needs a better outlet for those pipes. The best mix? Ty Karlsson's Overdub Mix.
