Seasonal Weight Gain and Bariatric Surgery in New York and Connecticut

39
It is common for people to make commitments to lose weights at various times of the year. Quite often people speak of gaining "holiday weight" in the winter months, which leads to New Years resolutions in January to get back in shape. Once spring and summer roll around, some people begin weight loss commitments to look better in swim suits or other summer attire. These times of year have many considering the benefits of bariatric surgery for effective and long-lasting weight loss. In places like New York and Connecticut, however, a lot of people aren't as focused on weight loss or bariatric surgery during the autumn months. The fall season actually poses many advantages when it comes to surgical weight loss.

Fall tends to serve as a "gateway" to the significant weight gain often experienced at the end of the year. The colder weather leads many causes many to exercise less often. Also, autumn holidays—from Labor Day to Thanksgiving—usually feature an abundance of high-calorie foods. Some may even become depressed during this season; a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder can lead sufferers to eat more and become less active.

Not only is fall a season of widespread weight gain, but it is also one in which weight loss is not as high of a priority for many people. As the warmer weather fades away, the incentive is not as high to look good in revealing clothing. Additionally, hectic activities such as preparing children for the school year leave little time to focus on attaining a healthy weight.

People who are suffering from obesity (with a body mass index of 40 or greater) may want to consult a bariatric surgeon during this time of year. Autumn presents a seasonal downturn for some weight loss centers in New York and Connecticut, with less people seeking gastric bypass, gastric sleeve or gastric band procedures. This makes the fall an ideal time to attend an informational seminar or schedule a consultation. Potential patients can miss the crowds and set a faster course towards a slimmer and healthier life.
