How to Cover / Repair Wood Furniture Scratches With Crayon
- 1). Clean the scratched area with furniture polish and a dust cloth. Gently buff and smooth the area.
- 2). Choose a crayon that matches the color of your furniture. Test the color on a hidden spot to make sure it's a good match with the finished color.
- 3). Rub the crayon into light scratches. Buff the wax with your finger or a soft, clean cloth to blend it with the surrounding finish. If your furniture has an indentation, continue to Step 4.
- 4). Soften the crayon with your hair dryer, then lightly color a small depression with the warmed wax. Let the wax cool to room temperature, then buff it. For larger indentations, melt the crayon with your hair dryer and let the wax drip into the blemished area. Heat a spatula or knife blade with the dryer, then work the wax into the depression and smooth the top so it's even with the surrounding surface, recommends the Utah State University Cooperative Extension. Let the wax harden, then buff the area with a cloth.
