Things to Do at Niagara Falls
- Niagara Falls has several activities that allow you to experience the true power of the Falls. The most popular of these is taking a trip on the Maid of the Mist. The Maid of the Mist is one of Niagara's oldest attractions, and is still one of its most famous. This boat that takes you directly up to the Falls, and donning a poncho, you can see and can feel exactly why Niagara Falls is so famous. The Maid of the Mist departs from both the American side and the Canadian side of the Falls, and trips leave every 30 minutes.
Another way to experience the Falls is to take a walking tour down into and under the American Falls. This is called the "Cave of the Winds" tour and allows you to stand on a deck only 20 feet from the base of the Falls. This is nicknamed "The Hurricane Deck," which you will find is, in fact, aptly named.
Another option is to go behind the Falls. "Journey Behind the Falls" takes you exactly where it says, and gives a great view of the enormous sheet of water that is constantly coming over Niagara Falls. - If you've gotten your fair share of water, there are many non-H2O related things to do in the area as well. The Clifton Hill area on the Canadian side of the Falls features many exciting and interesting places to visit. Practice your putting at Dinosaur Park Mini-Golf or prepare to be amazed at Ripley's Believe-it-or-Not Museum. You can also meet the stars at Movieland Wax Museum or try your luck at the Canadian Midway Arcade.
- One of the most spectacular experiences to be had at Niagara Falls is dining over the Falls. There are several restaurants in the area, namely on the Canadian side, that offer Fallsview dining among floor-to-ceiling windows, and even rotating restaurants. This is not an experience to be missed. Perhaps you will even take a ride on the Sky Wheel, a 175 feet tall ferris wheel that will allow you to take in Niagara Falls in all of its glory. In addition to this, every Friday and Sunday night during the Summer you can see a magnificent fireworks display over Niagara Falls. However, if you happen to miss this, don't fret because the Falls are illuminated with multicolored lights 365 days a year.
