How to Start a Multicultural Church
- 1). Create a "church plant proposal" that explains the church's vision and core values as a viable plan. Include a biblical statement about diversity and the purpose of the ministry. Define the target audience as a geographical area that would open it to many different groups rather than a particular age or ethnic group.
- 2). Prepare a launch day that is at least nine months in the future. Set weekly goals to deal with the things you will need, such as signs, the order of service, maps and sign-up cards.
- 3). Hire a diverse leadership and recruit board members and volunteers from different cultures. Empower them to model what is preached from the pulpit. Develop policies that commit the church to involving all its ethnic groups in the life of the body.
- 4). Develop diverse relationships and become competent in understanding cross-cultural issues. Talk about differences without getting offended. If you make mistakes, apologize.

Acknowledge the heritages of each represented group by celebrating their cultural holidays. International dinners give members of the congregation a chance to wear their national costumes, share their culture and share native dishes. - 6). Hold worship services in an informal manner with blended worship styles. Carefully add a wide variety of instruments as well as a sprinkling of prayers and songs.
- 7). Actively seek racial reconciliation, such as between black and white people. This is a challenging task that requires much prayer and fasting, but rewards the church by enhancing the church's witness in the community and opening the door to disciple unreached people.
- 8). Deal with potential conflicts by providing forums on a regular basis where people can frankly express themselves.
