How to Report Abuse From Someone With Visitor Visa
- 1). Call 911 immediately if you are being harassed or abused by anyone, foreign or not. 911 puts you in direct contact with law enforcement trained in dealing with abuse and dangerous situations. Keep calm and provide all information on the person abusing.
- 2). Leave the dangerous situation immediately. Get out of the house, hotel or location where the abuser is. If you have no transportation or means to get out, call a local shelter for abused spouses and ask for immediate assistance. Your first immediate need is to protect yourself from further abuse.
- 3). File charges against the abuser through the local law enforcement. Foreign nationals on visitor visas are subject to United States laws and will be held on the charges filed. If you have the passport number or visa, provide this information to the police officers.
- 1). Call the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services at 1-800-375-5283, 1-800-767-1833 TDD for the hearing impaired.
- 2). Provide the USCIS agent with the name, address and nationality of the visitor in question. Tell the agent only the facts, do not speculate or editorialize. For example, if you know for fact the visitor has overstayed the visa or is working illegally, report this information.
- 3). Provide the agent with your information should they need to contact you or have you testify for trial or court actions.
