Cooktown and Cape York Australia

30
A truly unique region, very rugged and not spoiled by human touch with a simple name.
Cooktown is not very explored and still considered a true wilderness area, one of the world's best.
You'll find an ancient area here on the Cape, filled with archaeological artifacts dating back to 30,000 years ago.
So it's logical that as a coastal environment with no human touch that has disturbed it, it's a natural habitat filled with wildlife, such as great species of tropical birds.
This has long been an Aboriginal area, Cooktown got its name from Captain James Cook, an explorer and navigator who discovered this beautiful region.
Cooktowns history includes active gold mining activity so it was a busy town at one point but it now is a very quiet area where the visitor and the natives can gaze upon all the beauty and history here.
If you're searching for luxury accommodations you may want to look elsewhere than the Cape area as it's mostly wilderness, ideal for the adventure traveler.
But it more than makes up for the lack of modern conveniences by overwhelming travelers with natural wonder.
In this area are the Torres Strait Islands, composed of 100 islands, but only nineteen of them have any people living on them.
Two of the inhabited islands are Thursday Island which is the center, an administration location, and Poruma Island is more of a true island experience, a good place to visit.
All the people who live on these islands are relaxed, very friendly, spiritual people, they love fishing, arts and crafts and dancing.
As a traveler wishing to connect with the culture, nature and people who live there the Cooktown, Cape York and Torres Island area is where you'd want to be.
This region will offer the rich heritage of the people and area, there are museums and tours to help introduce this to the visitors.
Here there are wonderful people but they do have some alcohol restrictions within their communities so please be respectful if you're visiting.
