My Trip to Parambikkulam

5
Parambikkulam is a wildlife reserve located in the Palakkad district of Kerala. My first visit to Parambikkulam started from the city of Kochi. Myself along with two friends set out for a trip to this place. The three of us came to hear about this place. We collected some basic information about the place as well as the travel route. Each one of us carried single shoulder bags. In these bags there were some basic clothing and camera. We took the local transport bus to Thrissur town. After reaching this town we loaded our camera. We had some food in a small restaurant. After that we started looking for the bus terminal. Finally we found the place. We found a bus to a place called Govindapuram. This place is situated at the border between Kerala and Tamilnadu. The journey from Thrissur to Govindapuram took more than one and half hours. The bus took us to a town called Vadakkanechery. From this town the bus took us to another town called Nemmara. The route passed through many parts of Palakkad district. Most parts of this district are full of paddy fields. From Nemmara the bus took us to Govindapuram. We got down there. From Govindapuram we got another bus to Pollachi. We got down at a place called Amrampalyam. From here we got another bus to Parambikkulam. We stopped and got down at place called Thunakkadavu. This is a beautiful place beside a dam surrounded by forests. We got a place to stay. It was a tree house. It was constructed on the top of four trees. The tree house was equipped with many modern facilities. We stayed there at night. Since it was in the midst of the jungle we could hear the strange sounds of jungle.
Next day morning we got down from our tree house and had our breakfast. We came across a guide who was aware of the path through the forests. So we decided to go for trekking with the help of this guide. After walking through the forests we came across a large number of butterflies circling an area. It was the first time that I am coming across so many butterflies in one location. As we moved forward we came across a lonely deer. But when it saw us it ran away immediately. After that we came across a rivulet in the midst of the forest. The area is often frequented by elephants. It was a beautiful. All the places we went we could not see any shops or any sign of human activity. Only Forest and mountains were seen. We felt completely on our own. We traveled a few more hours through the forests. Then the guide took us to a very large teak tree. I had never seen a teak tree so huge. The guide informed that the tree is at least five hundred years old. Then we moved along the river side towards the dam. On the opposite side we could see wild boars and wild buffalos. Although the trekking took three to four hours we did not feel very tired. It could probably be due to the presence of a highly oxygenated environment. We reached the location of the tree house. We had lunch there. We were completely refreshed. We had to stay one more night because there was an unexpected cancellation of the bus to Pollachi. Next day we packed our bags and caught the first bus. We returned through the same route we came from. After reaching Kochi we realized that this was a trip worth remembering.
