How to Rig a Soft Bait for Craws
- 1). Tie a length of twine or rope, 6 to 8 inches long, to the bottom center of the crawfish net. Tie a double knot in the middle of the length so that there are a few inches on each side.
- 2). Place the soft bait in the center of the crawfish net. Soft baits that work the best include cut-up pieces of perch or other small freshwater fish or chicken necks. Beef and chicken livers work especially well too because the blood they emit in the water attracts the crawfish. However, because they are small and slimy in consistency, they are sometimes tough to tie into the trap.
- 3). Wrap the pieces of string at the bottom of the net around the bait. Wrap the string around the bait several times and then tie it with a single or double knot.
- 4). Space the crawfish nets out at around 20 yards apart. Lift the nets out of the water occasionally using the pole to lift the nets by the metal juncture where the ends meet in the center.
- 5). Empty the crawfish into the bucket, reset the bait if necessary and then place the nets back in the water.
