How to Remove Sheet Laminate From Counter Top

17
    • 1). Place a tarp or plastic sheeting on the floor surrounding the cabinet.

    • 2). Pour lacquer thinner into a small spray bottle.

    • 3). Cut an opening at one end of the laminate by sliding a utility knife blade between the laminate and the countertop. Be certain you are cutting the adhesive between the laminate and countertop and not into either of the surfaces.

    • 4). Work a small metal putty knife into the opening and lift the laminate up from the countertop as high as it will go.

    • 5). Spray the lacquer thinner in the opening and allow it to sit for a couple of minutes.

    • 6). Push the putty knife further into the adhesive, releasing another section of the laminate from the countertop.

    • 7). Repeat the spray and loosen process as many times as necessary to release the entire laminate sheet. You can shove wooden dowels underneath the laminate to help hold it up in order to spray the adhesive. If the loose laminate become too large and unwieldy or you can no longer reach underneath to work, cut the loose laminate away with a jig saw or rotary tool.
