How to Process HUD FHA Mortgage Refunds
- 1). Verify whether or not your mortgage company notified HUD of the termination of your FHA mortgage insurance. Wait at least 45 days after you have paid off your mortgage loan before verifying if your mortgage company has sent HUD a request to terminate the mortgage insurance on your loan.
- 2). Contact HUD to request an application for a premium refund or a distributive share payment form HUD-27050-B if you believe you are entitled to a refund. You can visit HUD's website and use their online search tool (see References) or you can contact the agency by email at sf_premiums@hud.gov or by phone at 1-800-697-6967 to check if you are entitled to a refund.
- 3). Complete the application for a premium refund or a distributive share payment form HUD-27050-B. You might be required to provide such supporting documentation as proof that you were the owner of the property at the time that the insurance was terminated.
- 4). Contact HUD if you do not receive a refund or any other documentation within 120 days following the day you mailed your application. If you decide to contact HUD in writing, be sure to include in your inquiry your name, your FHA case number, the date on which your mortgage was paid in full, the property's address and your daytime phone number.
