How to Make a Moleskine Notebook
- 1). Use a sharp artist's razor to cut all the pages out of an old, sturdy hardcover book. The cover of the book should be just a few millimeters larger on all sides than prebound journal refill paper.
- 2). Attach a thin ribbon that matches the color of the book cover to the spine of the journal refill, using strong glue. One inch of ribbon should be glued to the top of the spine so that the rest of the ribbon lays upward, away from the pages.
- 3). Fit the refill paper into the book cover, and measure a length of thin elastic band around it lengthwise, so that the elastic is slightly stretched. Cut the elastic so that it reaches almost, but not quite, all the way around the cover. Remove the refill paper.
- 4). Turn the empty book cover so that you are looking at the outside of the back cover.
- 5). Slice a small gash using the artist's razor just big enough for the thin elastic band to fit through in the upper and lower left corners of the back cover. The gashes should be about a half-inch from the edges of the notebook.
- 6). Work the ends of a length of elastic band through the gashes, and glue them with strong adhesive to the inside of the back cover so that the band will fit snugly around the finished notebook.
- 7). Close the empty book cover around the refill pages again to test where the two will fit together when shut.
- 8). Attach the front of the journal refill to the inside front of the empty book cover using strong glue. Be sure to attach it so that the book sits well when shut.
- 9). Attach the back of the journal refill to the back inside of the empty book cover in the same manner as the front, covering the ends of the elastic.
