How to Locate a Phone Prefix
- 1). Go to the website the Directory (see its link in Resources). On this website, different area codes are listed with their respective states in an alphabetic order. If you know the phone prefix and want to find out which state's prefix it is, press "CTRL" + "F." On the small "Find" window, type the particular area code, for instance, "208," and press "Enter." Your browser will then find "208" on the page, and will show the prefix listed under "Idaho." If you don't know the prefix, search the state's name in the "Find" window.
- 2). Use the website Fone Finder (see Resources). Go to the website, and type the phone prefix in the "Area Code Prefix" field. If you want to locate the prefix by city name or zip code, use the other two fields on the page. The search results will then show you the prefixes for different states and zip codes.
- 3). Go to the website Search Smartz (see Resources), and browse through the list of phone prefixes listed with the respective state's name. To find a particular state or a prefix, press "CTRL" + "F" and type it in the "Find" window. The browser will then search for the typed name or prefix on the page and you will be able to locate the prefix associated with different states.
