    • 1). Measure the length of the casing on the flag. Add 1 inch to the measurement.

    • 2). Mark the distance of the measurement on the flagpole. Begin 1 to 2 inches from the top end of the pole.

    • 3). Drill a hole in the flagpole on both marks. Use a drill bit that is the same diameter as the eyelet screws.

    • 4). Twist the eyelet screws into place.

    • 5). Cut a piece of string three times the length of the flag casing measurement.

    • 6). Thread one end of the string through the flag casing. Pull the string through the casing so an equal length of string extends from both ends of the casing.

    • 7). Thread the end of the string on the top edge of the flag through the top eyelet screw. Start from the top of the pole and point the end toward the ground. Hold tightly.

    • 8). Place the end of the string on the bottom of the flag through the bottom eyelet screw. Start from the bottom of the eyelet screw and point the end of the string toward the top of the pole.

    • 9). Pull both ends of the string at the same time to to tighten the flag. Tie the two ends of the string together in a square knot. Cut off any excess string.
